What is Joint Health?

Joint health refers to the well-being and optimal functioning of the joints in the human body. Joints are the connections between bones that allow movement and flexibility. Maintaining good joint health is crucial for overall well-being and quality of life.

Causes of Joint health
  • Aging: Aging is one of the major factors in causing the joints to become stiff and in reducing mobility because as we age, the cartilage of the joints begins to break down.
  • Injury or Trauma: Fractures, sprains, dislocations damage the joint structures leading to poor joint health.
  • Sedentary Lifestyle:Lack of regular physical activity leads to weak muscles and stiff joints.
  • Obesity:Excess body weight puts additional stress on joints, mainly the knees, hips and lower back.
  • Poor Posture and Body Mechanics:
Poor posture in the daily life activities puts unnecessary stress on the joints.
Symptoms of joint Health
  • Joint Pain: Poor joint health is determined by pain which can vary in intensity. It may be constant or irregular and can worsen with movement or after inactivity.
  • Stiffness: Joint stiffness is usually felt after periods of rest or after prolonged sitting which makes the joint movement difficult
  • Swelling: Swelling around the joints indicates poor joint health. The swelling may be caused by excess fluid or inflammation.
  • Reduced Range of Motion:Poor joint health hinders everyday movements like bending, reaching, walking and may make the joint feel stiff.
  • Weakness: Poor joint health leads to muscle weakness. Less stability in joints leads the muscles around it to weaken due to pain.
