It is pain or tightness in the mid back and chest wall. Common causes are posture, muscle strain and stiff joints. A GP can find the cause if it lasts.
Yoga does not treat a medical cause. Gentle poses may improve posture, ease tight muscles and help the ribs move. Use them alongside medical advice.
Balasana, Marjariasana, Bhujangasana and Setubandhasana move the mid back gently. Go slowly and stay in a pain free range.
Avoid Wheel, Low Plank and Crane while the back is sore. They load the spine and shoulders. Stop any pose that causes sharp pain.
Yes. Chest pain can signal a heart problem. Call 999 for chest pain, especially with breathlessness or sweating. Do not wait or try yoga.
See a GP if pain lasts a few weeks, wakes you at night or sits between the shoulders. Go urgently for fever, leg weakness or bladder changes.
