Explore →Yoga for bowel irregularity uses gentle poses and slow breathing to ease stress and support regular habits. It does not replace medical care. This page lists safe poses by level and explains when to see a doctor.
Understanding the Category
Bowel irregularity means changes in how often or how easily you pass stool. Stress, low activity, diet and low fluids can all play a part. Yoga cannot fix the cause alone. Gentle movement and slow breathing may help the gut relax. These poses fall into three groups:Squat and fold: Malasana and Balasana bring the knees toward the belly.Twists: Supta Matsyendrasana and Bharadvajasana gently move the belly.Spine flow: Marjariasana and Setubandhasana wake up the back and core.Start with seated and kneeling poses. Add twists next. Practice before a meal or two hours after.

Common Questions
Not on its own. Yoga may ease stress and keep the body active, which can help the gut. Fibre, fluids, a regular routine and medical advice matter just as much. Use yoga as one part of your plan.
Malasana, Balasana, Supta Matsyendrasana and Marjariasana bring gentle movement to the belly and hips. Vajrasana is a simple kneeling seat. Keep every pose comfortable and slow.
Gentle twists move the belly and may stimulate the gut. The evidence is limited and mostly traditional. Twist softly, breathe slowly and stop if you feel pain or strain.
Many people prefer the morning, before a meal or two hours after one. A regular time helps build a steady habit. Avoid strong twists and folds right after eating.
No. Do not stop any medicine without speaking to your GP or pharmacist. Yoga may support a healthy routine, but it is not a substitute for treatment when you need it.
See a GP if constipation keeps returning, you notice blood in your stool, or your habits change suddenly. Also go if you have belly pain, weight loss or constant tiredness. Get urgent care for severe pain or vomiting.
